Board Meetings

The Board of Education is the elected body charged with governing our school district. Board members serve four-year terms. By law, the Board is responsible for the education of all children in the District. The Board's actions, which must conform to Federal, State, and County laws, set policy and give direction to the staff on instructional programs, financial decisions, and collective bargaining. The District staff, headed by the Superintendent of Schools, carries out the policies and actions of the Board. Written comments from the public that are received via the HBCSD Public Comment Form by 12:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting will be forwarded to the Board and posted at HBCSD.org for public viewing.

Board Meetings
School board meetings are scheduled for the second Wednesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. for Closed Session and 6:00 p.m. for Open Session at Hermosa Beach City Council Chambers, located at 1315 Valley Drive, Hermosa Beach, but are subject to change, especially until COVID restrictions are lifted. These meetings are open, and the public is welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to address the board regarding an agenda item or any other business is asked to complete a special card that is available at the board meeting.

The school board meetings are broadcast live on Spectrum Cable Channel 8 and on Frontier Channel 31, as well as the HBCSD YouTube channel. You may also view the school board meetings live online on the City of Hermosa Beach's website, https://www.hermosabeach.gov/. Near the top of the City's website homepage, there are yellow buttons. Click on the first yellow button called, "Agendas & Videos," and look for the desired meeting. On the same city web page, "Agendas & Videos," you may view past school board meetings. Scroll down the page to find "Archived Videos." Look for the "School Board" tab and click on it, and then locate the meeting you would like to view.

A full board agenda is available for viewing at the school district office and at our school site offices during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
