Report Cards

There is an exciting change coming to the HBCSD elementary report card in the

2026-2027 school year!

Purpose Statement: The purpose of the Hermosa Beach City School District elementary report card is to communicate to families their student’s progress towards meeting grade-level, academic performance and positive learning skills.

At Hermosa Beach City School District, we are committed to providing families with meaningful information about their child's learning and growth. During the 2025–26 school year, the HBCSD Elementary Report Card Committee—comprised of elementary teachers, site administrators, and district leaders—engaged in a thoughtful review and redesign of the Kindergarten through Grade 5 report card to better reflect student progress toward California's grade-level standards and the development of the HBCSD Learner Profile.

The revision process was guided by extensive stakeholder input. Elementary families and staff participated in surveys that included both open-ended and structured response questions, allowing the committee to identify common themes and priorities. A draft report card was then shared with elementary teachers for additional feedback before revisions were finalized. The updated report card was presented to the Board of Education in May 2026 and reflects both stakeholder feedback and current best practices in standards-based reporting.

We are excited to implement the new elementary report card beginning in the 2026–27 school year and look forward to partnering with families as we continue to support every student's academic growth, character development, and success.

• Grades are given for each subject area.
• Grades reflect an averaging of scores to determine a percentage aligned to a letter grade.
• Students’ scores are derived from combining assignments, tests, quizzes, and participation.
